Be Part of the Project!

What Is The Pies That Evoke Dreams Project?

The Project is my own philanthropic spin on a pre-existing international blogging event called Sugar High Friday. Sugar High Friday (SHF) was started 3+ years ago by Jennifer Hamilton, a food blogger who lives in Canada and writes the blog, The Domestic Goddess. Ever since the first SHF in October 2004, the event has been hosted once a month by a different blogger around the world who chooses a theme for the month. Participants cook desserts that coordinate with a monthly theme chosen by the host. They then write posts in their blogs about what they’ve cooked. As you can imagine, the dessert loving/making community at large has built a large following around SHF. All the SHFs that have been held to date can be viewed here (scroll down).

As the host of this February 2008’s SHF, my theme is pies- specifically “pies that evoke your dreams,” inspired byfilm The Waitress. Given the huge following of Sugar High Friday, I wanted to take the efforts of these devoted bloggers and their readers to the next level- by making the event charitable.

My vision is to unite the involved communities (bloggers, readers, sponsors) on SHF and during the month of February to support of the work of a non-profit organization. I easily found an inspiring beneficiary to be: Pie Ranch.

Sound fun? Our goal is to raise $5,000 for Pie Ranch- here's how to participate!

Participation Levels:

Utensil Sponsors: In-kind sponsors are highly encouraged to support the work at Pie Ranch. Read the wish list of items needed on the Ranch.

Pie-o-philes: Readers are encouraged to go online and read the stories and recipes participating bloggers will submit for February’s Sugar High Friday- stay tuned to Leap Year, February 29th when the roundup of entries will get published on Vampituity, an Improvised Perspective. Each participating blogger is asked to include the link to make a direct contribution to the work of Pie Ranch by clicking on the donate button. Full instructions on how to participate as a blogger are here.

Whisk & Mixer Sponsors: As can be imagined, a fundraising effort that is entirely virtual (residing on the Web) needs readers and awareness to be successful. Media and outreach partners will be critical to our success in reaching our goal of raising $5,000 to support Pie Ranch’s capital campaign.
